AlwaysFree: Saudi to Use Big Natural Gas Project for Blue Hydrogen

Author: SSESSMENTS

Saudi Arabia plans to use its big natural gas project to make blue hydrogen as the kingdom is moving away from a previous strategy to become an exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

According to Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman, a significant portion of gas from the USD110 billion Jafurah project development will be allocated for blue hydrogen by converting natural gas and capturing the carbon dioxide emissions.

Jafurah is estimated to hold 200 tcf of gas and Saudi’s national energy giant Saudi Aramco is set to start production in 2024.

Last month, according to Bloomberg, Aramco was considering opening up the Jafurah field to foreign investors. Some sources said that the company is working with an adviser as it mulls raising equity or debt to develop the site.

All the efforts are part of Saudi’s plan to be an exporter of hydrogen according to Prince Abdulaziz’s promise to make the world’s cheapest green hydrogen.
