The Serbian portion of the TurkStream gas pipeline extension will likely miss the startup deadline of the end of 2020, industry sources close to the project said. According to the sources, this section is not expected to be ready for its first gas flow until at least next year’s spring. The Serbian section connects TurkStream’s Bulgarian section to Hungary at Horgos. The 403-km pipeline section can transport 13.9 Bcm of gas annually. It also includes a compressor station and four metering stations.
Meanwhile, construction work at the Bulgarian section of the TurkStream extension is still ongoing. It leaves the third 474-km segment that will connect Nova-Provadia station in Bulgaria to the Kirevo/Zajecar interconnection point on the Bulgaria-Serbia border. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said the country’s gas distribution system is capable of reverse flow operations. This capability is needed to transport gas further to Serbia.
