Anglo-Dutch oil giant Royal Dutch Shell and Norsk Hydro, a green hydrogen unit of Norway’s aluminium maker Hydro Havrand, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to identify opportunities to jointly produce green hydrogen and supply it to heavy industry and transport customers. The deal is part of the companies’ push to decarbonise their operations. Hydro said the two firms would first seek a suitable site in Europe for their joint hydrogen production plant. The site should be able to service both companies’ own consumption as well as for the broader market. They will expand into other locations at a later stage and ultimately establish integrated hydrogen value chains for the global market, the Norwegian company added.
