Sergey Komyshan, an executive director of SIBUR, said the company had increased petrochemical exports, especially to Europe, thanks to surging demand for medical equipment amid easing impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. Komyshan also noted that the company emerged as the second-largest player in the Turkish petrochemical market. In 2020, SIBUR exported 1.44 million tons of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), rising from 400,553 tons in 2019.
SIBUR’s significant export growth is mostly attributed to the new ZapSibNefteKhim plant in Tobolsk, West Siberia, which can produce up to 2.5 million tons/year of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and other polymers. Komyshan noted that SIBUR has a deal to sell up to 1 million tons/year of polyethylene (PE) from the ZapSibNefteKhim plant to China’s state-owned Sinopec.
