China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), a state-controlled company, will launch its first green hydrogen project in 2022.
The green hydrogen plant will locate in the Ordos, Inner Mongolia, with a production capacity of 20,000 tpa. The total investment would be CNY2.6 billion (USD405.58 million).
The project’s first phase will involve 10,000 tonnes of hydrogen output, supported by a 270 MW solar power station and a 50 MW wind farm. The plant produces will be supplied to a coal chemical project run by Zhong Tian He Chuang Corp.
Sinopec also announced its focus on fossil fuel-based hydrogen output in the next five years. It will also set up 1,000 hydrogen filling stations across China, as part of its goal to be carbon neutral by 2050. Other than that, the company has planned to construct a 20,000 tpa green hydrogen plant in Kuqa city in Xinjiang.
