China’s state-owned refining giant Sinopec said it planned to invest CNY30 billion ($4.6 billion) on hydrogen energy by 2025 as part of its target to become a carbon-neutral company by 2050. The company aims at 200,000 tons/year of hydrogen refuelling capacity by 2025. It also plans to produce more than 1 million tons of green hydrogen between 2021 and 2025 and expand solar power generation capacity by 400 megawatts for supplying electricity to charge vehicles. Sinopec has so far set up 20 hydrogen refuelling stations and planned to build another 60. Asia’s largest oil processor produces about 3 million tons/year of hydrogen from non-renewable energy sources, mostly used in its oil refineries and petrochemical plants.
