China’s state-owned Sinopec has revived its Chanshan import terminal in Zhejiang, east China after years of being closed.
On Monday, it discharged a 23,000 t propane cargo after being recommissioned in July. Chenshan can only offload a half laden very large gas carrier at one time because of its draft limitations.
Jinshan Associated Trading will operate the terminal and distribute the imported (liquefied petroleum gas) LPG domestically through pressurized vessels. Currently, the terminal is not ready for wholesale deliveries by tanker trucks.
In other news, Sinopec will also inaugurate an LPG terminal in Guangdong. It will have a 60,000 t of propane storage capacity and will not be operational until the first quarter of 2021. However, the ethylene cracker is set to begin operations later in September.
On September 1, Sinopec has also begun the construction of a new LPG terminal at Ningbo, Zhejiang. It is a part of Sinopec’s Zhenhai refinery's light hydrocarbon project and will have a storage capacity of 60,000 t or refrigerated propane. It will also possess several pressurized LPG tanks and is expected to be operational by 2023.
