- The Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities contained 14.6 bln cubic meters of gas as of October 30 out of 19 bln cubic meters required to be in stock by winter
According to TASS, Russia's state-owned news agency article published on November 1, 2022, some European countries have already started using gas reserves contained in their storage facilities, whereas the load on Europe’s UGS facilities is going to be significantly higher in the winter compared with previous years due to changes in the logistics and the sources of gas supply, Gazprom said in a statement on Tuesday.
"According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, gas reserves contained in Europe's underground gas storage facilities were replenished by 68.6 billion cubic meters as of October 30. Nevertheless, even getting the UGS facilities of major European countries to maximum levels of reserves would not guarantee a reliable performance in the upcoming autumn/winter period. What is more, the load on Europe's UGS facilities is going to be significantly greater than in previous years due to the changes that have occurred in the logistics and the sources of gas supply on the European market. It should be highlighted that some countries have already started using the gas reserves contained in the storages," the statement said.
The Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities contained 14.6 bln cubic meters of gas as of October 30 out of 19 bln cubic meters required to be in stock by winter. "Ukraine's representatives admit that filling up the storages is possible only in theory rather than in practice," Gazprom noted.
European underground gas storage facilities are almost 94.7% full now, according to data provided by Gas Infrastructure Europe. There are slightly over 102 bln cubic meters of gas stored in them now. Earlier, EU countries assumed the obligation to reach the occupancy level for gas storage facilities of at least 80% for 2022-2023 winter, and 90% for all future winter periods.
