South Korean chemical maker LG Chem announced on Monday that it would invest around KRW60 billion ($50.16 million) to build a new Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) compound plant in its site in Ohio, the US. The planned facility will have a capacity of 300,000 tons/year and will provide customised Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) for the North American market. The region accounts for 10% of the world’s Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) market. However, it has limited capacity to produce high value-add ABS, especially with heat and weather resistance for automotive, construction, and decoration material applications. LG Chem also plans to consider building an Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) polymerisation plant to meet demand from North American customers.
