A fire in the supertanker located off Sri Lanka’s east coast broke out last Thursday has been managed to extinguish. The fire on the tanker has been doused while the navy spokesman continued to spray water in case the fire reignites, Captain Indika De Silva, navy spokesman said.
The supertanker New Diamond is filled with approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil, but on September 4 the senior navy official said there is no serious risk of spill. On Thursday, September 3 morning, fire started at the engine room and spreaded to the bridge of the ship. The fire has just managed to be completely put out on Sunday, September 6.
