On Sunday, the Sudanese government reached an agreement with tribal protesters to resume South Sudan’s crude exports via the Bashayer Port on the Red Sea.
The protesters from the Beja tribes in eastern Sudan had been blocking roads and forcing Red Sea ports to close in recent weeks. They have also forcefully closed a pipeline that carries imported crude to Khartoum.
The ruling council did not elaborate on the terms of the agreement or give further details.
Previously on Saturday, the Sudanese energy and oil ministry warned that if the blockage persisted, the port's oil depots would become full up in 10 days' time, which would lead to a halt in production from the South Sudanese oil fields.
