According to the company’s website press release on January 18, 2023, the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (KEPCO; President: Nozomu Mori; Headquarters: Osakashi, Osaka) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui; President and CEO: Kenichi Hori; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct a feasibility study on Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) value chain development.
Based on the MoU, KEPCO will lead the study of CO₂ capture from its thermal power plants, and Mitsui will lead CO₂ transport and storage studies, in order to conduct a full CCS value chain feasibility study. KEPCO have set a roadmap to achieve “zero CO₂ emissions from business activities as a whole by 2050 in its “Zero Carbon Roadmap.”
KEPCO Group will promote the development of a CCS value chain and contribute to the zero-carbon society that will benefit its customers and future generations.
