Global commodity trader, Trafigura Group Pte Ltd, will invest in Somaliland’s Berbera Oil Terminal (BOT) facilities to position it as a supply hub for the East Africa region. The company also said that it had shipped the first low-sulfur gasoil cargo to the port of Berbera following a storage agreement with the country’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism.
The company added that it has committed to upgrading BOT into an oil logistics hub that serves customers across Somaliland and the Horn of Africa. Trafigura said that the upgrade would be carried out in phases. After the expansion, BOT will have larger storage capacity and will be able to import jet fuel and LPG for local and regional markets. The development will also include improving the port’s ability to handle larger vessels.
