While the commercial wars between the United States and China have been getting burned up ever since the global pandemic began, Turkey-US business council (TAIK) is escalating the attempt to improve the bilateral business climate between the two countries by reminding American decision-makers about Turkey’s position as a reliable trade partner. The council has specified potential areas to use as a bilateral trade booster. TAIK’s chairperson Mehmet Ali Yalçındağ disclosed that they had sent letters to the United States Secretaries of Trade, Energy and Agriculture for the timely responses.
Recommendation are on the initial focus in import LNG and agriculture from the US, at the same time exporting Turkey’s white goods and automotive parts, as diversifying supply chain for the United States away from China is the goal of Trump’s Administration, disclosed Yalçındağ of the letter sent to the U.S. Secretary of Trade also President Trump. Chairperson Yalçındağ also detailed, he asked to explore export financing options for supporting U.S.-Turkey trade. Yalçındağ believes that this action would smooth out as much as $18 billion of US exports to Turkey by the month of September next year, and Turkey would increase its role in the diverse and reliable global supply chain.
Chairperson Yalçındağ also said articles and social media messages are presenting misleading images from legitimate approach by TAIK. The chairperson explains that the council worked in transparency and the letters are the legitimate effort to outreach and informing government official about creating trade and employment for both countries.
