AlwaysFree: Turkey’s LNG Imports Fall For First Time Since February

Author: SSESSMENTS

Turkey’s LNG imports stood at 16.4 Mcmd of pipeline equivalent in July, falling from 18.5 Mcmd a year earlier, marking the first year-on-year decline since February. Turkey’s LNG receipts were under pressure from a rebound in pipeline imports from early summer. In July, LNG accounted for 16.3% of Turkey’s aggregate imports. Imports from Algeria plunged year-on-year, with no cargoes reported to have arrived from Qatar and the US.

Turkey’s natural gas imports through pipelines also dropped year-on-year in July, albeit at a slower rate compared to previous months. Azerbaijan was Turkey’s largest pipeline gas supplier in July with 35.3 Mcmd shipments, increasing from 29.0 Mcmd a year earlier. Russian gas receipts stood at 27.2 Mcmd, falling from 38.0 Mcmd over the same period. Iran became Turkey’s third-largest pipeline gas supplier with 21.4 Mcmd, increasing from 19.6 Mcmd a year ago.

Domestic gas consumption fell to 91.2 Mcmd in July, from 91.5 Mcmd a year earlier. Demand from the industrial customers was down on the year. However, Turkey’s power sector gas burn increased to 36.1 Mcmd from 33.5 Mcmd thanks to strong overall power demand and lower regulated tariffs for utilities starting on July 1.
