Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass and Sempra Energy’s Cameron LNG export terminals in Louisiana remained shut as of August 27 after Hurricane Laura swept through the region overnight. The two facilities have a combined capacity of 40 million tons/year from eight liquefaction trains, making them among the largest LNG terminals in the US.
Cheniere and Sempra shut the terminals on August 25 ahead of the hurricane’s landfall. The operators on Thursday waited for site access to assess damages at their facilities and to determine whether they can restart production. The outages from both plants helped to push gas deliveries to major US LNG terminals to fall to 2.1 Bcfd, the lowest since February 2019.
Cheniere also operates an LNG terminal near Corpus Christi, Texas which was not affected by the hurricane. A Cheniere spokeswoman said the company would provide updates on operational status in the coming days. A Cameron LNG spokeswoman said the company would need to pass safety inspections first before resuming production.
