According to people familiar with the situation, the UK is lobbying at least 18 countries to stop foreign fossil-fuel financing by the end of 2022.
At the sidelines of the COP26 summit in Glasgow, Scotland, the details of the plans are still being cooked up in talks with a joint statement to be disclosed on Thursday.
The upcoming statement would be similar to the promises and pledges to end the financing for overseas coal projects made by the US, the EU, and the US. The statement might not be binding but it would be a landmark in the will to tighten the flow of money to fossil fuel projects from publicly backed development banks.
