AlwaysFree: US April Energy Consumption Lowest in 3 Decades

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Wednesday, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said that the country’s energy consumption in April dropped to the lowest level in more than 3 decades due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In April 2020, the US consumed 6.5 quadrillion Btu of energy, the lowest level since September 1989. The reading was the lowest year-on-year slump since 1973, by 14%.

Petroleum consumption in the month plunged by 27% year-on-year to 14.7 million bpd and also the lowest level since May 1983.

According to the EIA, the slump in fuel consumption was tattered by the peak of lockdowns and other travel limitations to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The overall energy consumption was contracted due to the large drop in transportation, industrial, and commercial sectors.
