On Thursday, the US government seized vessels allegedly filled with Iranian fuel for the first time.
Previously in July, US Prosecutors filed a lawsuit to seize the gasoline loaded in four tankers that Iran is trying to ship to Venezuela. The Trump administration aims to stop the flow of revenues from oil sales to Iran as a sanction for Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and influence across the Middle East.
According to some officials, the four vessels were seized without the use of military force on the high seas recently and are now en route to Houston.
Senior administration officials are scheduled to meet the tankers at an event planned to mark the docking.
