On Wednesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the country’s plan to improve gasoline output and distribution in the country following the arrival of the second Iranian fuel tankers.
Venezuela is making purchases for later months after the gasoline imported for October has arrived, according to the president. He elaborated that there would be a restriction on Venezuelan citizens in buying fuel, to only be able to purchase on certain days depending on their license plate numbers.
The decision came after a wave of protests recently over a lack of basic services, including gasoline. The Venezuelan government has drastically rolled back longstanding fuel subsidies this year as well.
The Fortune vessel hit Venezuela’s exclusive economic zone at 01.45 AM local time (05.45 GMT), expected to discharge 272,000 barrels of fuel.
The third vessel, the Faxon, is scheduled to arrive later this week.
Venezuelan refineries active right now are El Palito which produces 30,000 bpd of gasoline and Cardon with 25,000 bpd of gasoline output.
