On Monday, the operator of Vietnam’s Dung Quat oil refinery, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical said that the refinery has started to process the first batch of Russian Sokol crude oil on a trial basis.
In July, the refinery imported more than 710,000 barrels of Sokol crude oil to mix with other types of crude for the test run. The mix consisted of 20% of Sokol and 29% of Bach Ho crude.
For the Dung Quat refinery, the processing of Sokol oil marked an important milestone to diversify oil sources from only Bach Ho crude. In 2019, the refinery processed its first batch of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) and Bonny Light crude oil, and it would continue to import between 8-10 million barrels of the two types in 2020.
Later this week, the Dung Quat refinery would be shut for maintenance until early October.
