Earlier this week, Chinese independent company Wanhua Chemical started up a new coal-based methanol plant in Yantai, Shandong, China with a nameplate capacity of 600,000 tpa but can produce up to 670,000 tpa of methanol.
Simultaneously, Wanhua has retired its old 200,000 tpa of a coal-based methanol plant.
The company plans to maintain the plant’s operation in the initial stage as it mainly aims to fulfill the needs of Wanhua’s methyl methacrylate and methyl tert-butyl ether units with a total demand of 200,000 tpa of methanol.
