Wood Group, a multinational energy services company, has won a contract for a decarbonization project in the UK. Under the contract, Wood will provide concept selection and early design to capture, treat, and compress up to 8 million tons/year of CO2 from the Humberside industrial cluster, in North Lincolnshire, the UK for permanent storage in North Sea subsurface geological formations.
The Humberside industrial cluster houses refining, petrochemical, and power facilities, including Phillips 66’s 221,000 bpd Humber refinery, Uniper’s Killingholme power plant, and VPI Immingham’s combined heat and power plant.
The project, called the Humber Zero project, will integrate the existing manufacturing sites with the latest carbon capture technology to create a zero-carbon power and petrochemical industrial cluster. It will consist of three phases and will incorporate the use of renewable energy to produce blue hydrogen with integrated carbon capture and green hydrogen through electrolysis.
