British charity Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) will collaborate on a project to reduce plastics and tackle waste management challenges in India. The project, called the Plastic Pact, aims at boosting cross-sector collaboration to enhance knowledge sharing between the UK and India. The Plastics Pact has been implemented in several countries. It is a network of initiatives to apply solutions to achieve a circular economy for plastic. The Plastic Pact will complement various existing plastic sustainability initiatives in India.
This will be the first Plastic Pact to be launched in Asia that will act as a beacon for other Asian countries to replicate. WRAP will cooperate with local partners and businesses to establish the India Plastics Pact. WRAP is waiting for confirmations from its Indian partners to work on developing the project. Meanwhile, UKRI will cooperate with major international companies while exploring innovative solutions and new ideas. It will work on unlocking more investment in plastics innovation. UKRI has committed £250,000 ($321,000) for the project.
