Some sources familiar with the matters said that US refiner Marathon Petroleum Corp. is delaying all maintenance projects on its St. Paul Park refinery in Minnesota until 2021 due to the concerns of the spread of coronavirus.
According to the source, the contractors involved in the refinery’s projects were instructed to not resume the works until next year.
The Industrial Info Resources (IIR) said that the proposed works for the refinery included maintenance on a crude unit in September. The work could involve thousands of contract workers and social distancing guidelines would be difficult to comply in such a situation.
At the moment, the 102,000 bpd St. Paul Park refinery has cut operating rates due to declining demand.
Marathon declined to comment.
