AlwaysFreeRegister: US Chemical Output Slumped in June

Author: SSESSMENTS

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) said that the US Chemical Production Regional Index (US CPRI) slumped by 1.1% last month on a three-month moving average (3MMA) basis with the Gulf Coast, Midwest, and West Coast regions posting the sharpest declines.

However, the figure was still an improvement from the 2.0% fall in May and a 3.0% drop in April.

Yearly, the country’s chemical production showed a 6.8% decline in June. It was the thirteenth consecutive month of a yearly drop.

Aside from Chlor-alkali, industrial gases, other basic inorganic chemicals, and consumer products which posted slight increases, all segments posted decreases. Between several major sections, some chemical materials output went up, such as supply chains related to Personal protective equipment (PPE) and disinfection products.

The data in chemicals reflected the condition of a country’s manufacturing activity. The US factory activity climbed as restrictions continue to ease across much of the country. However, on a 3MMA basis, overall factory activity decreased by 2.3% as declines sustained across most industry segments.
