The American Chemistry Council (ACC) said that in June, the specialty chemicals market in the US improved as the country’s economy had posted a continuous recovery.
Last month, the volumes of specialty chemicals market rose by 3.6%, compared to the 1.2% gain in May and 12.6% slump in April.
25 specialty chemical segments expanded in June, out of 28 with 23 segments posted gains of higher than 1%. In the previous month, only 22 segments expanded while April posted declines in all segments.
On a sequential basis, diffusion was 89%, an improvement from 79% in May and 0% in April. In June, 23 segments featured gains of more than 1.0%.
On a year-to-year basis, the overall specialty chemicals volumes went down by 11.7% last month. Volumes were at 99.0% of the 2012 average volume or 3.06 mt.
Only cosmetic additives, electronic chemicals, along with flavors and fragrances, posted gains on a yearly basis.
Diffusion was 12% on a yearly basis. It showed an improvement in May and April but still slumped from the start of 2020.
