AlwaysFreeRegister: Work On Project Near Sarnia Resumed By Nova Chemicals

Author: SSESSMENTS

Some construction work will be resumed by Nova Chemicals this week at its $2.2-billion project in St. Clair Township near Sarnia.

In response to restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, the company announced in late March it would temporarily limit the work to critical equipment lifts and deliveries. That move was expected to reduce the construction workforce at the site by about 90 percent.

At the construction sites, approximately 600 tradespeople had been working, Nova Chemicals said in February. To ensure worker safety at the sites, the company said Wednesday it has taken “significant steps”. Along with setting up additional hand-washing trailers and stations, the steps include daily on-site audits to ensure compliance with government protocols, increased communication with contractors and unions, and additional steps aimed at maintaining physical distancing.

Those steps are in addition to enhanced cleaning of common areas and screening those entering the site, the company said. The expansions were previously expected by Nova Chemicals to be ready to start up in late 2021.
