A Chinese trader opined to SSESSMENTS.COM that the competitive localized PVC prices in the country will put more pressure on local producers. Recently, more and more traders are aggressively offering localized ethylene-based PVC cargoes of various origins and the offers are deemed very attractive. For localized ethylene-based PVC of South Korea and Thailand origin, the offers for prompt delivery are similar to the offer for local acetylene-based PVC, which is much lower than the offers for local ethylene-based PVC cargoes. According to SSESSMENTS.COM’s pricing database, the current ethylene-based PVC offers via another local trader are available at CNY5,800-5,900/ton ($819-833/ton) on cash, EXW China basis, and including 13% VAT.
“We think the current situation is unfavourable. Although there are some maintenance shutdowns in the upcoming months that will ease the ample domestic supply, local producers will still face difficulties in selling their cargoes as the number of imported cargoes is huge,” the trader explained to SSESSMENTS.COM.
