Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) will construct a propylene storage facility near Damghan city in north-central Semnan province as part of plans to expand the country’s petrochemical sector, according to a report by state-controlled media IRIB. As SSESSMENTS.COM noted, NPC Managing Director Behzad Mohammadi and other company officials visited the site on Thursday.
During the visit, Mohammadi suggested that the site needed to be linked to transportation infrastructure such as railways. Previously, he said that Iran’s propylene output increased to 950,000 tons. However, it remains insufficient to meet domestic demand. Hence, Iran is developing projects to increase propylene production.
Previously SSESSMENTS.COM reported that Iran is planning some projects to ease its propylene shortages. The country is struggling with an annual propylene shortage of 175,000 tons. Iran’s propylene shortages are expected to reach 700,000 tons by 2025-2026, NPC data showed.
