Comments by market players on HDPE Film as follows:
On March 31, a global trading house informed SSESSMENTS.COM on May shipment offers from a Thai PE producer. “May shipment offers for HDPE Film from a Thai PE producer surfaced with $50/ton reduction compared to April shipment. However, considering the current market situation, the offers are unattractive.”
“Following the uptrend in the futures prices, the price movements in the China market are mixed, some traders are testing the market with some increases for spot offers. However, from our end, we keep the prices stable from yesterday. We think market players have to wait for the global market back to the normal track as China market is also affected by the slow movement in other countries,” a local trader said on March 31.
“This week, offers for Saudi HDPE Film decreased by $20-30/ton on a weekly comparison. However, we are not keen to purchase the cargoes due to the long lead time around two months. We believe that China market will be more active by next week as converters are expected to start the procurement activity,” a local trader commented to SSESSMENTS.COM.
“The leading Indonesian polyolefins producer has sold out all PE allocation to China market and this week, we concluded deals for HDPE Film from the producer at the same level to the initial offers at $645/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis,” a trader informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
A Chinese trader commented to SSESSMENTS.COM, “We received import offers for Thai HDPE Film at $680/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. However, we are not interested in the offers as local prices are more attractive. We think the import offers will drop further in the following week.”
A Thai PE producer commented on the adjustment on May shipment offers, “Currently, China market is on a downtrend; hence, we decided to decrease our May shipment offers for HDPE Film by $10/ton compared to the offer given on March 31. The upward movement in the futures market does not help boost our sales; in fact, buyers are still asking for low prices.”
