NewsSSESSMENTS: Review Of China HDPE Film Market Week 15, April 6-10

Author: SSESSMENTS

  • Central Asia origin $680-710/ton
  • Middle East origin $720-730/ton
  • Southeast Asia origin $800-825/ton

Comments by market players on HDPE Film market as follows:

“We have received import PE offers from a Thai producer for this week. As compared to last week’s level, the offers for HDPE Film increased by $35/ton, available at $825/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. So far no deals concluded yet as buyers opined that the offers are too high,” a Chinese trader informed SSESSMENTS.COM on April 7.

“Yesterday, our offers for local HDPE Film were adjusted up between CNY150-200/ton ($21-28/ton) as compared to last week’s level. Buyers were giving good responses and started to replenish stocks in anticipation of a further price increase. However, since the increment in PE prices in the futures market is not that significant today, we did not adjust up our offers further, as we predict that sales would not be as good as yesterday,” a Chinese trader said on April 8.

A global trading house stated, “We have received import HDPE Film offers of Saudi origin at $730/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. Compared to the done deals two weeks ago, the offers have declined by $30/ton. Currently, traders are taking a chance to move out the cargoes and reducing inventory on hand. We predict that the uptrend in PE prices are short-lived since demand is not supporting the long-lasting uptrend.”

Another Chinese trader contacted by SSESSMENTS.COM informed regarding the import offers of Iran origin. “Import PE offers from the Iranian producers are $40-70/ton lower than last week’s level following the formula prices. However, since PE prices in the China market are going up this week, the final price for Iranian cargoes that arrived this week would be slightly higher than these levels. Looking ahead, we believe that the PE market in China will be improving week by week, PE prices would be stable in the near term.”

A trader in Xiamen revealed, “Offers for Qatari PE cargoes went up by $40/ton from last week. However, the producer has suddenly reduced the offers by $80/ton in the middle of last week. As such, compared to last Monday’s level, the offers dropped by $40/ton. Despite this week offers for local and import cargoes increase, but we remain cautious in procuring the materials as the Coronavirus outbreak outside China has not been handled.”

“We noticed that PE prices in China's domestic market are on an uptrend. As such, we adjusted up the offers accordingly. For HDPE Film, the offers are adjusted up by $20/ton from last week, available at $810/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. We managed to conclude some deals at $800/ton on the same payment and delivery term,” a Thai PE producer revealed.
