NewsSSESSMENTS: Review Of China HDPE Film Market Week 17, April 20-24

Author: SSESSMENTS

  • Far East Asia origin $700-760/ton
  • Middle East origin $700-760/ton
  • Southeast Asia origin $780-810/ton

Comments by market players on HDPE Film as follows:

On April 20, a Thai PE producer informed SSESSMENTS.COM, “Compared to last month, our offers for HDPE Film decreased by $120/ton. However, so far, no deals concluded as China market is quiet at the moment.”

“This week, we received HDPE Film of Saudi origin at $40/ton lower from last week. But we have no plan to purchase the cargoes as the market is very slow. Moreover, following the crash in crude oil prices, we believe that buyers will hold on procurement,” a Chinese trader stated.

“May shipment offers for HDPE Film from a Middle Eastern PE producer remain stable on the monthly comparison and stood at $720/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. We think that the producer does not have pressure to reduce their prices, especially as the prices were decided before the crude oil prices crash,” a local trader commented to SSESSMENTS.COM.

A global trading house informed SSESSMENTS.COM on receiving HDPE Film offers from several origins, “We received May shipment offers for HDPE Film from the leading Saudi polyolefins producer at $820/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. However, these prices are just for references as the producer does not have stocks. While for Kuwaiti HDPE Film, the offers stand at $760/ton on the same payment and delivery term. The demand is sluggish now, and buyers are expecting the lower offers in the near term, so we think PE prices still have room to decrease.”

“Deals for Thai HDPE Film concluded at $30/ton lower than the initial offers at $780/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis,” a trader informed SSESSMENTS.COM on April 23.

“Our offers for HDPE Film declined by $60/ton compared to last week’s level. However, deals achieved at $10-20/ton lower than the initial offers at $700-710/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis,” a South Korean producer stated to SSESSMENTS.COM.

A Chinese trader commented, “This week, we received May shipment offers for HDPE Film cargoes of United Arab Emirates origin at $20/ton lower than April shipment. While Saudi HDPE Film offers stand at $740/ton on LC at sight, CIF China Main Port basis. Both offers are not attractive; hence, at the moment, we prefer to monitor the market further before making any decisions.”

“We sold US HDPE Film cargoes at $700-705/ton on LC 90 days, CIF China Main Port basis as today’s buying sentiment is good for PE. However, we think PE prices are facing the possibilities to drop further as foreign suppliers become more aggressive in moving cargoes to China,” a local trader commented on April 24.
