A source from India’s Chemplast Sanmar informed SSESSMENTS.COM that the company’s 300,000 tons/year PVC plant is still shut. Previously, the PVC plant located in Mettur Dam near Salem in Tamil Nadu was shut down on March 26 due to the lockdown in India and no clear information regarding the restart schedule as the domestic PVC market is still closed.
SSESSMENTS.COM noted that the lockdown in India is extended until May 3 to curb further spread of the Coronavirus. The government decided to prolong the world’s biggest lockdown for its 1.3 billion people as the cases in India have reached the 10,000-mark. Despite the current circumstance, the government may loosen regulation to partially reopen businesses and allow some factories to resume operations with restrictions.
