South Korean petrochemical producer SK Global Chemical is planning to put its no.1 naphtha cracker idle, its parent company SK Innovation stated on Thursday. The 200,000 tons/year cracker in the southeastern city of Ulsan will be shut from December, to allow the company to focus more on producing more lucrative chemical products.
As SSESSMENTS.COM noted, SK Global Chemical has a capacity to produce up to 870,000 tons/year of ethylene. With the shutdown of its no.1 cracker, the producer’s ethylene output capacity will decline to 670,000 tons/year. According to SK Innovation’s statement, SK Global Chemical will then focus on the production of more packaging products such as packaging materials for meat and packing adhesives.
